Hello out there! How is everyone doing? I felt like it would be a good idea to share with you the probiotics we use around here to help keep us feeling good. It seems that everyone around us has been sick. A bad cold went through everyone at work and many of my friends as well. We have managed to avoid it with only slight runny noses breaking through. I am going to attribute this to the food choices we make as well as probiotics, multi-vitamins, and elderberry!
I discovered probiotics years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. I ALWAYS had stomach issues growing up. When I was in my 20s I thought I figured it out and believed that I might be lactose intolerant so I cut out most dairy. This did help my stomach problems but not completely. I started doing a lot of research on how our food is produced and manufactured. The food system in the United States is a complete disaster but I have seen some major growth in the last couple years. Such a large percentage of the population is sick and obese and a lot of it has to do with what we are eating. You can’t put sludge in a high performance machine and expect it not to break down.
Anyway, having a healthy gut is essential to overall health. Research has shown that our gut is a link directly to our brain and having an unhealthy gut can contribute to depression and anxiety. You can read more about this here. It is important for many reasons to keep our gut healthy and functioning properly. Who enjoys stomach issues?? I don’t believe anyone.
One thing I do that contributes to a healthy tummy and feeling good is taking a probiotic supplement. Probiotics are the good bacteria that live in your gut and help with things like diarrhea and constipation, eczema, even tooth decay, and high blood pressure! Check out this informative article here.
Ever since I have started taking probiotics I rarely have an upset stomach and I have been enjoying dairy again. They help boost the immune system and keep your body in good fighting condition. I have also been giving my kids probiotics since they were itty bitty.
My kids are still very young and not at the age where they could swallow a supplement. I get a powdered probiotic for them that I can easily add to juice or milk, I have even sprinkled it in their almond butter and jelly sandwiches! The supplement they get is Garden of Life Organic Probiotic for Kids – Raw Organic Probiotic Supplement for Kids’ Digestive Health. You can purchase it HERE.
My husband and I take PB8 Probiotic Supplement and it works just fine for us. This supplement is inexpensive compared to others and works well. I have been taking this for years.
I know that there are a lot of different probiotics now that are used to treat specific ailments. You can read more about this here.
I even give our dog Captain probiotics! I just sprinkle it over his food and he eats it right up. Probiotic Miracle is good for dogs and cats.
I always store our probiotics in the fridge and take them daily. Other ways to get probiotics into your system is to eat fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi! I have a super simple recipe for homemade sauerkraut and my kids love it. They call it purple pickles. I will share that recipe in another post soon!
