My husband won a trip to Las Vegas from a local radio station here in Michigan. It was such a shock! I never seem to win anything but I guess he’s pretty lucky. Anyway, we have not been on a trip together since before our daughter was born 4 years ago so it was well deserved. My mom and brother agreed to stay at our house and take care of our kids and the dog, so we were all set!
The trip included air fare for 2 and a room at the LINQ Hotel. Since our trip was free (except spending money of course) we upgraded our room to a mini suite. It was very nice! We also had a lot more room to relax in.
Now I am not the same girl that used to go to Vegas with my girlfriends in my 20s. We used to stay out until dawn and then relax all day in the sun by the pool. Don’t get me wrong, that still sounds like fun but in reality I’m a lot more tired than I used to be. I did have a bloody mary at the airport before getting on the plane. It helped get me in the vacation mood!
We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon, checked right in and wanted to go grab some food. In our hotel was Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen so we decided to give that a shot. The food was actually really good. John had a mac and cheese bacon burger and I had a turkey burger that had ancho bacon, gouda cheese, and a sweet red pepper onion jam on it. The portions were huge but we ate pretty much every bite. It was very good.
We went out and walked the strip for a while, went to the top of the Eiffel Tower in The Paris and enjoyed some drinks.
There is a really cool bar in the Wynn Hotel right on a small pond that has a sweet waterfall. Every 30 minutes a short show starts that includes music and crazy images on a large screen. It was really cool. They also serve you some mixed nuts and potato chips with your drinks. I really liked that place.
The next morning we got up and had breakfast in the Hash House A Go Go. The portions here are humongous! John had the fried chicken benedict and I had the crab cakes benedict. Everything was really good here as well. I wanted a bloody mary but was losing my voice so stuck with warm water with lemon and honey.
After breakfast we took an Uber to the Harley rental place Escape Eagles. Uber in Vegas is AWESOME! Anyway, the owner was real nice and we got an Ultra Classic 2015 to take day trippin. It was awesome! It had a sweet seat on the back for me. We went out to Red Rock Canyon and it was really amazing. The weather was perfect.
After Red Rock Canyon we went to see the Seven Magic Mountains, an art exhibit by the Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. It was really neat! There was a photo shoot going on there while we were there and other people were coming and going. It is something cool to do off the strip.
We went back to the hotel and slept from about 5pm to 11pm. Woke up and went to eat. After that we headed back down to our hotel lobby to watch the Dave and Chuck the Freak show live. We won the trip through The WRIF and that was one of the perks of this trip. They are pretty hilarious.
The next day we took it pretty easy, enjoyed some drinks and food and then headed down to Fremont street to check out the Mob Museum. This museum is very cool. There are a lot of interactive things to do and a lot of informative exhibits. The movie Casino is one of my all time favorites so this was amazing. It was like the movie but in real life.
That night we got tickets to the show Zumanity at the New York New York. This was HILARIOUS and really entertaining. I definitely recommend this show if you like some adult humor mixed in with some crazy cool acrobatics.
Vegas was a great time. The weather in November is perfect. Its about 80 degrees during the day and in the 50s at night. We got to just hang out together which we don’t get to do too often at home. Good food, good drinks, and great company. I can’t wait to go back!
