My daughter LOVES Halloween. She is obsessed. I love Halloween too, it is definitely a super fun time of year. It is also the beginning of the fall/winter holidays and an overload of sweets and sugar. I do what I can to limit our sugar intake around here. The less refined sugars we have in our bodies the better. Sugar has been linked to all sorts of diseases and health problems so I do my best to limit sugar intake and try to focus on real foods, especially around this time of year.
With that being said, I do not want to take the fun out of trick or treating and I do let my kids eat some of their Halloween candy. One day a couple years ago when I was on Pinterest I came across a pin about the Switch Witch. I thought the idea was so cool and clever that I had to adopt it into our household. Basically the Switch Witch will make a trade with you…your candy for a toy. You can have your kids write a letter to the Switch Witch and leave it with the candy they want to trade on Halloween Night. The Switch Witch comes in the middle of the night and takes the candy and uses her magic powers to conjure up a toy that your child wants. It’s also a good way to remind them to behave around this time of year, the Switch Witch is watching you!
Last year at Target they actually had a Switch Witch book with a little doll. I got it for my kids and now we read the story on occasion and she has the little doll in her room. You can get this set here on Amazon. The story is really cute. It explains why the Switch Witches need your candy and how they will come make a trade. It is a lot of fun and a great way to get that candy out of the house or stash it in your room for late night cravings. I normally take it to work and let everyone there eat it up!
